Free Galleries for Members

As part of its service to members, the AKG is offering free individual picture galleries to members to showcase their work on this site. Galleries will be built over the next few weeks. Please This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it about sending your pictures. Each picture can have an individual description which may include prices, material lists or a description of the process.

To help us get them up quickly, if the pictures can be emailed or sent on a disk to us. Scanning photos takes a while so please be a little patient. We have had a great response so far to the galleries, keep the pictures coming in.

Loss of a Friend - Dave Myhill

It is my sad duty to inform you that after a recent illness, Dave Myhill passed away in hospital on Sunday, January the 20th.

Dave has been a member of the Guild for many years and was a regular at the Melbourne knife shows. Most of us will remember Dave as the big pommy guy with a ton of stuff on his table, knives, axes, and everything in between. And a bit of jewellery for the ladies.

As for me, I think I’ll remember this big guy with a big heart, and a genuine love for our craft. A guy that was only too willing to share his knowledge with anyone that cared to ask. And of course, who could forget the yarns he could tell. Sometimes I wasn’t sure if he was pulling my leg or not.

On behalf of The Australian Knifemakers Guild and its members, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Dave’s family and friends.

He will be sadly missed.

Canberra Knife Show 08

Saturday February 2nd 2008

9am until 5pm

Embassy Motel in Canberra.

Canberra has a growing number of local knife collectors and enthusiasts, and is close enough to Sydney to be a day trip. The Embassy Motel is in the centre part of Canberra, close to many attractions, and offers affordable accommodation as part of the package.

The show will be followed by a special workshop day on the Sunday held out at the Tharwa Valley Forge - where makers are invited to run short workshops to share ideas and techniques. It is aimed as a professional development day for members of the Guild to learn from each other. It will not be open to the general public. We are looking for presenters to share a 60 minute session. The session should be interactive, drawing from the experience in the group. We have well equipped workshops to run demonstrations with gas and coal forges, a number of grinders, and hand tooling areas. It will be a great opportunity for participants and presenter to learn from each other.

Tables can be booked online trough the Tharwa Valley Forge Website  . There are only a limited number of tables.

Melbourne Knife Show Report 2007

It was great to see everyone at the show this year, including some new faces whom we shall talk more about shortly, although there were those who didn’t attend and we missed them a lot.  At the top of that list is Sandie, our much loved and hard working treasurer/secretary who is still dealing with her family situation and was unable to be there with us.  Sorely missed, we hope and pray that things will continue to get better for her and that she will be back with us soon.  With a newfound respect for how much she really does do for us, it is much clearer to me that I should have thanked her more often for her hard work.  THANKS SANDIE!!
